The Band

Daylight in the Swamp is a contemporary bluegrass band based out of Madison, Wisconsin. The band members are a collection of some of the top musicians in the area. The various influences they bring to the group show the diversity of their backgrounds. Dave Bacholl lends his talents on bass in many styles of music from blues to jazz to contemporary. Ryan Gallagher, in addition to having a superbly classic country/bluegrass voice, possesses flatpicking guitar styles unapproachable by many as well as rock solid rhythm techniques. Dave Goodwin has been playing banjo for over 30 years and has experience in stage, TV, recording, and radio work. Jim Lottridge sparks the group with his mellow voice and skilled multi-instrumental talents. Occasionally the band is joind by fiddle player Jon Vriesacker. Jon is a former Wisconsin State Fiddle Champion as well as an accomplished classical violinist who has performed with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.

The merging of these very distinct personalities and differing musical backgrounds and tastes results in a very unique sound. With a broad spectrum of material, they can bang out traditional versions of the classics, but at the same time, aren’t afraid to incorporate songs from other genres. Their repertoire ranges from classics such as Blue Ridge Cabin Home, Big Spike Hammer, and Little Georgia Rose to Bob Seger’s Turn the Page, David Allen Coe’s Ride Me Down Easy, and Gordon Lightfoot’s Early Morning Rain. Their airtight harmonies, razor sharp arrangements, and on-stage rapport make them audience favorites across Wisconsin and Illinois.

The band's mission is to preserve the hard-driving traditional bluegrass sound, while including some material from other musical styles. Their work can best be described as “Music with a Bluegrass Accent."

Members of Daylight in the Swamp have opened or shared the stage with such greats as Bill Monroe, The Osborn Brothers, The Johnson Mountain Boys, Special Consensus, Ricky Skaggs, Eddie Adcock, Lee Greenwood, The Doug Dillard Band, Union Station, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Maro Kawabata, Don Rigsby, Chatham County Line, and the Henhouse Prowlers.
